Smoke or haze?

Smoke haze at 5am outside my house

With drought and bushfires, times can be tough but all I have had to contend with in the last few days has been an early summer - two days of 39.5c [about 103F which is HOT] but t his [see picture] is what I walked out into this morning. A Haze that smelled of smoke and my trusty BOM app says the temperature is just 17.6 which is a massive drop of 22 degrees from the peak from yesterday.

oops BOM means Bureau of Meteorology - the Official weatherman.

So, I am wondering how far away are the fires?
