Laugh Hard And Often To Tune-Up Your Immune System

Our mood and attitude have a tremendous bearing on the function of our immune system. When we are happy and up, our immune system functions much better. Conversely, when we are depressed, our immune system tends to be depressed.

By laughing frequently and taking a lighter view of life, you will find that life is much more enjoyable and fun. Here are some tips to help you get more laughter in your life.

Play With Kids Kids really know how to laugh and play. If you do not have kids of your own, spend time with your nieces and nephews, or with neighbourhood children with whose families you are friendly. Become a Big Brother or Big Sister. Investigate local Little Leagues. Help out at your church’s Sunday school and children’s events.

Listen To Comedy Audiotapes In Your Car While Commuting Check your local record store, bookstore, video store, or library for recorded comedy routines of your favourite comic. If you have not heard or seen many comics, go to your library first. You will find an abundance of tapes to investigate, and you can check with them out for free.

Go To Comedies At The Movie Theatre Go for those movies that are full of comedies. If you see a funny movie together with your friends, you will find yourself laughing harder and longer than if you had seen the same scene by yourself. You and your friends feed off each other’s laughter during and after the movie. Laughing together helps build relationships. Hire or buy the DVD's of Vicar of Dibley the Divine Collection

Learn To Laugh At Yourself Recognize how funny some of your behaviour really is, especially your shortcomings or mistakes. We all have little idiosyncrasies or behaviours that are unique to us that we can recognize and enjoy. Do not take yourself too seriously.

Inject Humor Anytime It Is Appropriate People love to laugh. Get a joke book and learn how to tell a good joke. Humor and laughter really make life enjoyable.

Watch Comedies On Television With modern cable systems, you will be amazed at how easy it is to find something funny on television. When I am in need of a good laugh, I try to find something I can laugh at on TV. Some of my favourites are the old-time classics like The Andy Griffth Show, Gilligan’s Island, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and so on.

A Winner's Attitude

Leading sales trainer Kelley Robertson submitted this article on a Winners Attitude:

"What does it take to be successful in sales? Certainly effort, hard work and dedication is important. An excellent understanding of the sales process is also essential. But it's more than that. The most successful people I know have a slightly different outlook than their coworkers and associates.

I recently worked with a group of people who, collectively, had an extensive amount of sales experience. And, for the most part, they all boasted a pretty successful career. Even though they expressed some frustration that they didn't close as many sales as they would like to, or that prospects didn't always return their calls, they didn't bitch, moan, whine or complain about it. In fact, I didn't hear a single complaint during the entire session. After more than a decade of conducting sales training workshops and programs, I can say that this mentality is rare.

It was evident that this group of people possessed a The Winner's Attitude: Using the "Switch" Method to Change How You Deal with Difficult People and Get the Best Out of Any Situation at Work. And I believe that this attitude contributed to their success."

Chilojo Cliffs Moon Gonarezhou National Park

The Power of One

My friend Miriam, who I call the Rhino Lady, for all the work she does with Rhino's went to Chilojo Cliffs Moon Gonarezhou National Park mentioned in Bryce Couryney book The Power Of One. Let me let Miriam tell you about the cliffs:

I heard Bryce Courtney, the author of The Power of One speak about the 'big sky' in Africa, well here is the 'big moon'. After a relaxing sunset, this rising moon was so enormous as it peeped above the trees I couldn't stop staring at it. The immense beauty of mother nature and the stillness of the moment was so peaceful.

What's Stopping You

When you have time, take a personal inventory of the fears keeping you from living the life you want. Then make a commitment and challenge yourself to face and conquer one them that's been holding you back.

To get started, see if any common fears from the list below fit you:

  • Admitting mistakes or wrong–doings
  • Adventure
  • Being inadequate/not good enough
  • Doing something you've never done before
  • Expressing yourself
  • Failure
  • Healing emotional wounds
  • Health concerns
  • Money/finances
  • Never having enough
  • Public speaking
  • Promoting yourself
  • Saying "NO"
  • Sharing your feelings
  • Taking a risk, such as starting a business or changing careers
  • Traveling

Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway

Chosen Child

A friend, a middle aged man, recently found out he was adopted.
This poem, shared bynhis adoption mother, is on his newsletter and he says that he gives him comfort:

Not flesh of my flesh,
Nor bone of my bone,
But still miraculously my own.
Never forget for even a minute,
You did not grow under my heart,
But in it.

Jack Canfield's Rainforest Adventure

Jack Canfield wrote to me a couple of days ago:

"I hope you're enjoying all that the New Year has to offer you! I just returned from my trip to the rainforest and it was truly a life-altering experience.

I spent 2 weeks living in the Amazon rainforest with no connection to the outside world..no emails, no cell phones, no television. We stayed in the Achuar tribal territory, which is just north of the Peruvian border.

We participated in many traditional activities of the Achuar tribe, including tribal dancing, "grubs" cooking, which is what we would call "cooking and eating bugs", and some amazing local art activities.

One of my favorite days included a 6 hour hike through the rainforest where we hiked through mud, streams, and dense brush and foliage wearing knee-high boots. This is a photo from that hike.

I spent most of the two weeks listening and learning about what we can do to preserve this amazing location. One of the biggest things we can do is to educate and empower the rainforest's inhabitants, the Achuar tribe, so they can continually work to improve and sustain the environment.

I strongly urge anyone who is interested in this global project to visit http://www.pachamama.org"

Denis Waitley Wisdom: The Real Bottom Line

A simple motto hung on the living room wall of my grandparents' small frame house, where many seeds for my development were planted. My grandmother and grandfather didn't talk about the lines; they lived them.

Life is like a field of newly fallen snow;
where I choose to walk, every step will show.

They believed you were either honest or you weren't. There was nothing in between, no such thing as partial honesty. Integrity, a standard of personal morality and ethics, is not relative to the situation you happen to find yourself in and doesn't sell out to expediency. Its short supply is getting even shorter -- but without it, leadership is a facade.

Learning to see through exteriors is a critical development in the transition from adolescence to adulthood. Sadly, most people continue to be taken in by big talk and media popularity, flashy or bizarre looks, and expensive possessions. They move through most of their years convinced that the externals are what count, and are thus doomed to live shallow lives. Men and women who rely on their looks or status to feel good about themselves inevitably do everything they can to enhance the impression they make -- and do correspondingly little to develop their inner value and personal growth. The paradox is that the people who try hardest to impress are often the least impressive. Devotion to image is often for the money it can reap. Puffing to appear powerful is an attempt to hide insecurity. If only we could see many of our celebrities when their guard and pretenses were down!

The myth that all that counts is bottom-line success often leads to fleeting stardom and ultimate defeat. Ask a thousand has-beens. There are no degrees of integrity. Just as you're pregnant or you're not, you have it or you don't.

Can I Leave The Table Please!

Remember when... great story sent to me by Michelle Allsop of Dare To Succeed:

"Hey Dad," one of my kids asked the other day, "What was your favourite fast food when you were growing up?"

"We didn't have fast food when I was growing up," I informed him. "All the food was slow."

"C'mon, seriously. Where did you eat?"

"It was a place called 'at home,'" I explained. "Grandma cooked every day and when Grandpa got home from work, we sat down together at the dining room table, and if I didn't like what she put on my plate I was allowed to sit there until I did like it."

By this time, the kid was laughing so hard I was afraid he was going to suffer serious internal damage, so I didn't tell him the part about how I had to have permission to leave the table.

The Warrior of Light and Knowing How to Wait

The Warrior of Light needs time to himself. And he uses this time to rest and contemplate and contact the Soul of the World. He manages to meditate even in the middle of a combat.

On some occasions the warrior sits down, relaxes and lets everything that is happening around him go on happening. He looks around him as if he were a spectator, does not try to grow or diminish, just commits himself unresistingly to the movement of life.

Little by little everything that seemed so complicated becomes simple. And the warrior becomes happy.
