3 Things You Do NOT Need to Be Happier in Life

 1. You do NOT need all the things. — In fact, they say a person needs just three things to be truly happy in this world: someone to love, something to do, and something to hope for. I don’t think anything could be closer to the truth, and yet all too often we find ways of complicating things for ourselves. We look for happiness where it does not exist – in shallow goals and desires – in possessions, quick thrills, and impressing the wrong people.

2. You do NOT need an easy fix. — You have to do hard things to be happy in life. The little things no one else is doing. The little things that frighten you. The little things others can’t do for you. The little things that make you question how much longer you can hold on and push forward. Because those are the things that define you. Those are the things that make the difference between existing and living – between knowing the path and walking the path – between a life of mediocrity and a life filled with happiness and success.

3. You do NOT need to be "better" than others. — The size of our universe shrinks dramatically when we place ourselves at the center – when we think everyone is our competition – when we think we have to be richer, smarter, and more attractive than the person sitting next to us. Such a goal just keeps a person alienated and tirelessly running in place. Now on the flip-side, take someone who doesn’t keep score, who’s not looking to be richer, or smarter, or more attractive, who has not the slightest interest even in being better than anyone else: she’s free. Bottom line: Compete only with yourself...

PERSONALIZED CANCER VACCINES

If you were to closely examine the surface of a tumor cell, you would see that it’s bristling with unique proteins known as antigens. T cells produced by the immune system are deployed to detect and attach themselves to antigens on the surface of tumor cells. By doing so, these T cells kill tumor cells and prevent the spread of cancer.

Neoantigens are new antigens that are the result of mutations found only in tumor cells. Highly personalised vaccines known as neoantigen cancer vaccines are a novel [new] approach being used to find the neoantigens on an individual patient’s tumor.

So, how does this work?

Scientists start by sequencing small bits of tumor obtained via a biopsy, looking for mutations that produce neoantigens. They then select for neoantigens that are abundant and most likely to attract T cells. These neoantigens are then synthesized in a lab and packed into a vaccine.

Over the course of several months, patients receive injections containing millions of these neoantigens specifically designed to bootstrap the immune system to produce T cells that attack these specific neoantigens and the tumor.

A number of these neoantigen vaccines are currently being developed in the treatment of triple-negative breast cancer, advanced melanoma, and lung non-small-cell cancer.

CHECKPOINT INHIBITORS

CHECKPOINT INHIBITORS

A recent breakthrough cancer study reported in The New England Journal of Medicine showed that treatment with the drug dostarlimab resulted in complete remissions of early-stage rectal cancers in every treated patient.

Approved by the FDA in August last year, dostarlimab is a kind of cancer immunotherapy treatment referred to as a “checkpoint inhibitor.” The name comes from the fact that checkpoint inhibitors block (i.e., inhibit) the brakes (i.e., checkpoints) that tumors use to fend off the immune system’s T cells.

The first significant implication of this study is that checkpoint inhibitors can be applied to early-stage rectal cancers with incredible efficacy. Conceivably, this could eliminate the need for surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy one day—with immune memory preventing future cancer spread.

Additionally, the current rectal cancer standard of care requires surgery. If the cancer is too close to the anus, patients need AP resections that require a colostomy bag for waste elimination. With checkpoint inhibition therapy, rectal cancer patients may now avoid this and drastically improve their quality of life.

Staying Calm

The art of staying calm in times of confrontation is a skill that you learn.

Believe it or not, the art in staying calm lies primarily in empathy. It can take a  long time to grasp this concept, but having Empathy will allow you to humanise the other person so that you can take better stock of the situation.

Reasons Why Leaders Need More Change Makers

Reasons Why Leaders Need More Change Makers

Think of a "change" as a wave that begins with a person's decision to act and ripples outward like those wave patterns in the ocean. Or consider it as a transfer of energy that creates momentum and ultimately a positive impact. This may be a small decision or action at first but it gathers force like the mexican wave at a  stadium that starts with just one person's deciding to act and that spreads. Some waves happen inside organizations, while others sweep over a larger community or marketplace. They start with one person's spotting a need or opportunity and deciding to initiate a change. Maybe the next wave is started by you?

Though to ponder - any small change will have big consequences!

Small Changes Are a Big Deal

Small Changes Are a Big Deal

Dunkin’ Donuts began offering a new type of coffee. For most coffee shops, brewing up an extra batch is no big deal. But for Dunkin' Donuts which serves more than 5 million customers per day and deals in tonnes, not pots, the launch of Rainforest Alliance Certified Dark Roast is a huge undertaking.

That is a BIG DEAL! 5 million coffees a day!

If you are starting a business it is often not a good idea to Tell Friends and Family.

If you are starting a business it is often not a good idea to Tell Friends and Family.

Everyone has likely experienced the same scenario at one point: sharing a great idea and execution plan among friends and family, only to be told bluntly that it wouldn’t succeed.

It is frustrating, and in some ways heartbreaking, to hear these criticisms from people we have grown to respect over the years. Though their arguments and points may likely be well founded, it’s also important to remember that these very points are based from their own belief systems which are contrary to your own. They do not believe they themselves can succeed in what you are doing, or they’d be already doing it.

Did you know that you can make Pretty Rocks From Human Ashes

Did you know that you can turn ashes of deceased humans and animals into pretty little stones — like river rocks. Maybe a better way than keeping an urn of ashes hanging around.

Start your day!

Try this before you "start" your day. [Thanks to Robin Sharma]

I encourage you to perform the following 5 acts of character training—each morning before 8AM - to help you create consistently superb days. And a spirit that soars.

1.  Write a letter of gratefulness to someone who deserves to be recognized. Every person alive today craves sincere appreciation.

Handwriting a letter to a good soul is a gift you both get to receive.

2.
Read from a profound book. We live in a world where very few go deep. We seek informal news in bite-sized chunks and scroll our feeds in hot pursuit of glitter.

Before 8AM, sit quietly and read from a great human’s autobiography. Or from a text of philosophy. To ground you on what’s important, before you live out your day.

3.  See your highest life. Take 5 minutes, with eyes closed, to imagine yourself behaving and performing as the person you most long to be. Make the movie vivid and colourful and real.

Over time - as your self identify rewires - you’ll begin to inhabit the life you’ve invented.

4.  Perform an act of generosity.

Before 8AM every day, do one tiny gesture to make someone’s life a little better. It could be a smile to a stranger or a hug to your child. Paying for the coffee of the person in line behind you or thanking the bus driver.

5.  Turn off your phone until 8AM daily.

The early morning hours have deep magic within them. Life’s too short to miss this glory because you’re addicted to technology.

Are you tired and grumpy?

Can a two and a half year old motivate his father when his father is tired and grumpy?

A Young boy, maybe just two and a half years old, was walking with his father after a very heavy and satisfing Christmas Day lunch.

After walking quite a distance both the boy and his father were tired from the walking. The young boy stopped, looked up st his father and smiled, starting to talk, "Daddy..... " he said but then hesitated.

This made his father responded, in a questioning way..."Yes?"

The boy paused and then said.. " If you ask me nicely, I'll let you carry me." Who could resist this type of motivation?

For those who have fur babies you will recognise this behaviour when whilst diligently exercising your friend, they refuses to walk any further and your only recourse is to pick them up and carry them. [ one of the reasons to get a small friend!]

Are you going cruising - here is some advice:

A cruise ship with more than 100 Covid-19 positive people onboard has docked in Sydney.

After departing Eden on the New South Wales south coast with more than 2,300 people onboard, the Coral Princess berthed at Circular Quay just before dawn on Wednesday, where it will remain for a day before returning to its home port of Brisbane.

Passengers will have to record a negative result on a rapid antigen test before disembarking but the crew will have to remain.

The outbreak mostly involves infected crew members, with 114 in isolation on Tuesday.

Four passengers were also isolating after positive results, and 24 earlier disembarked in Brisbane, according to Queensland’s chief health officer, John Gerrard.

NSW Health said passengers who tested positive had probably taken the virus onboard with them rather than becoming infected at sea.

The ship docked in Eden on Tuesday, where about 800 passengers disembarked after returning negative tests.

The Eden-Monaro MP and NSW regional development minister, Kristy McBain, said locals had been happy to see the ship dock after bushfires and the pandemic impacted the region.

“When you’ve got towns that rely on tourism it’s been an incredibly difficult couple of years,” McBain told Sydney radio 2GB on Tuesday. “Hopefully this will be the first of many cruise ships to dock this season ... There’s been significant investment into the Port of Eden so that cruise ships could dock in town.”

Celebrate the positives

Even though it can be a tough ask, focusing on the positives can really help you manage change. While the positive aspects of a situation might not be obvious to begin with, it’s worth seeking them out – no matter how small they might be. For example, if you’ve moved recently, you might be away from your friends, but it's also a great way to learn how to be more independent.

Try to make the best of the situation. You can still call and write to those friends, and plan to visit them!

Accept and reframe

Accept and reframe

If the unwanted change is beyond your control, try taking a reflective approach. Accepting that there are things beyond your control, and choosing to be comfortable with that fact, is likely to bring greater peace of mind than waging an unwinnable war. View change as an opportunity to learn and grow, rather than as a setback, even if you have to fake it til you make it!

Ask yourself how much you can control

When a big change occurs, it’s important to figure out how much control over the situation you really have. Understanding your role and how much you can change can help you put things in perspective. For example, if you've just moved out of home, there are many small things you can do to make the process easier. Make a to-do list and check each item off when you complete it.

[Current example: How much can we control the price of fuel?}

What’s the worst that can happen?

We're often scared of change because we’re afraid of the unknown. And a good way to deal with the unknown is to think things through carefully. Read the Daily News Paper from a year ago and wonder what was going to happen?

Usually nothing did! [The really Bad Stuff]

Imagine all of the different possible outcomes, and then decide what would be your best and worst-case scenarios. Write them down, if it helps.

Another great strategy is to think about the last time you were faced with a big change and got through it okay. Remember how scary it was starting high school or learning to drive? Sometimes it’s not as bad as it seems at first, and may just take a little time to get used to.

History Repeats Especially when not Taught!

What you did 30 years ago is forgotten - how else do you explain the Marcos family returning to power in the Philipines!

It is often said that if you are too young to remember stuff like the WW1 or WW2 horrors you will see them again - the war in Ukraine or Tiananmen Square uprising lead us to other things we have forgotten.

I remember being told that a 14.4 k  modem would last me a life time. The saleman didn't even crack a smie as he told me either! We have come a long way but haven't kept up with the world. I think covid exposed how bad the NBN is!

are You Ready for When Video Replaces writing?

People will stop writing - Video will become king.

Many schools have stopped teaching cursive writing because it is dying out as more people use keyboards. The best way to send video messages are BonBon and Volley.

Get More Done - Ed Mylett's Mini Day concept

The concept of mini days - three 6 hour days each 24 hours - the rest sleep!

We have had 24 hours  a day for nearly 300 years back when it took 3 months to go from London To Sydney by ship - where a text or video goes at the speed of light now. Rember, back then the concept of time was made up! Let's adjust how we calculate a day!

Get more out of life!

Tips and strategies if you want more people to know you:

#1.  Don't aim to have others like you; aim to have them respect you.

#2.  Be the change you wish to see.

#3.  Compliment people behind their back. you will be surprised how much people will comment about that!

#4.  Being always angry, makes you appear stupid - which won't help the knowing of you spread! Who wants to be known as stupid!

#5.  Use this standard retort to an insult! You are probably right. because often they are!

#6.  To be wealthy, accumulate all those things money can't buy - friendship is at the  top of that list!

#7.  To get more friends remember: Just because it's not your fault doesn't mean it's not your reponsibilty!

#8.  Ask geat questions and listen to the answers before you interject your point of view.

#9.  Get people talking about you! Over promise and then over deliver! That should do it!

#10. Always smile and avoid seeking the approval of others. People will like you more if you smile! And remember, you are only as young as the last time you changed your mind.

lLfe is to be lived!

Life is a journey that is always unknown and full of surprises. The ability to persist on a given path regardless of setbacks, unexpected events, bad news, and resistance – to continue firmly in some state, purpose, or course of action in spite of conditions – is a trait common to those who make it. This isn’t a trait that people do or do not have; it’s something that can-and must-be developed. This is a quality absolutely necessary to make any dream a reality.

Whether you’re a sales person or individual, employer or employee, you will have to learn how to persist through all types of situations. It is as though this planet has some kind of force-almost like gravity-that challenges people’s ability to persist.

Any endeavor you tackle will require you to persist until all resistance morphs into support. Don’t try to eliminate resistance; keep going until the course changes and your ideas are maintained instead of defied. For example, if you have a heckler/hater on social media it does your reach good to have engagement so don't delete them - encourage them because you are being noticed. [Alogorithms love people being noticed}

Persistence is a great advantage to anyone who wants to multiply his or her success because most other people have given up on their innate ability to persist. When you retrain yourself to do whatever is necessary to ensure that you are in the best mental, emotional, and financial position to persevere-you will find yourself on the list of the most successful.

Now I have your attention: At the moment I am getting Crowdfunding Scripts built that will allow you to get involved for a return of up to 10%pa plus paid monthly with your initial money invested back in 5 to 7 years [ when the business is on sold] - from as little as $1,000 or similarly small amounts of crypto, a time.

A Summer of Cricket?

I am traditionalist when it comes to cricket. I do a double take when the headlines say "Australian Cricket etc..." but lose interest when the talk switches to women players... many I don't know.

some years ago, a visiting colleague from India asked where the people playing cricket were.... on the drive from the airort to my home! Then I read about a young indian Player who had to disguise herself to play with the boys before anyone would talk her seriously.

I think I shoud just give up on sport!!

Rex Airlines are blaming qantas for all their trouble!

Rex Airlines has reignited a longstanding battle with Qantas over its fleet expansion into previously Rex-exclusive routes, after pulling out from a key battleground.

Rex announced it will exit the Melbourne-Albury route after 39 years, with its final service on the route to take place on 29 May. It comes after Qantas took on the service in February 2021, with the move to see Qantas claim a monopoly on the route.

Melbourne-Albury was one of the first eight previously Rex-exclusive routes that Qantas subsequently entered, which sparked a fiery war of words between the two carriers, and an ongoing back-and-forth that has seen both airlines battling over each other’s regional routes.
