What's Your WHY??

Great friend Paul Dunn has been pushing towards the teachings of Simon Sinek.

Simon has developed a concept of The Golden Circle where he explores the "power of WHY" and how WHY you do something is better and more powerful than WHAT and HOW you do something.

In his book Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action Simon investigates why companies like Apple achieve so much, why Bill Gates was able to become the richest man in the world and why other perfectly adequately funded companies with very talented people cannot achieve anywhere near the results of the former.

Simon says once he had established his why:

"To inspire people to do the things that inspire them, so that together they could change the world."

For the last 15 years my WHY had been to build a sustainable business that would be attractive enough for my son Matthew to continue as his... he is now breaking down barriers in the Middle East, India and soon into places like Egypt.

As I dropped him off at Perth Airport on Saturday for another trip to Qatar I felt that maybe is was time for me to find a NEW WHY.

After much though, I have established my first version of my WHY. Here it is... what do you think.

Wayne's Why:

To inspire people to "Learn, unlearn and relearn" so that they can enjoy their lives to its full potential regardless of the obstacles life has put in their way. Obstacles such as background, ethic upbringing, social influence, mental and physical brutality, experiences of life, good or bad, life's disruptions and teachers good and bad.

Wayne's How:

By utilising the digital tools that are now available to take teachers to the world using effective digital marketing and learning and teaching methods. By writing uplifting stories that empower others.

What do you think...
I would love your thoughts on what you think about this... let me know here, on Twitter or on Facebook.

The Opposite of Remarkable is VERY GOOD!

Ideas that are remarkable are much more likely to spread than ideas that aren't. Yet so few people make remarkable stuff or do remarkable things.

Why? Probably because they think the opposite of remarkable is bad or mediocre or poorly done.

If you travel on an airline and they do everything right, you don't tell anyone. That's what's supposed to happen.

What makes it remarkable is if it's horrible beyond belief OR if the service is so unexpected (They arrived an hour early! They gave me a complimentary ticket because I was cute! They served flaming crepes suzette in economy!) that you need to share it.

Are you making very good stuff? And how fast can you stop?

Each of our troubles is a steppingstone

Advice from a donkey:

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a
well. The animal cried piteously for hours as
the farmer tried to figure out what to do.

Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the
well needed to be covered up anyway;
it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbours to come over and
help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began
to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the
donkey realized what was happening and cried
horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he
quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally
looked down the well. He was astonished at what
he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his
back, the donkey was doing something amazing..
He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbours continued to shovel
dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it
off and take a step up.

Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey
stepped up over the edge of the well and
happily trotted off!

*****

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds
of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well
is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of
our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out
of the deepest wells just by not stopping,
never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

Enough of that crap. The donkey later came back,
and bit the farmer who had tried to bury him.
The gash from the bite got infected and
the farmer eventually died in agony from septic shock.

When you do something wrong, and try to cover
your ass, it always comes back to bite you

Be gone flu... be gone

This morning I have found myself making explanations for undone work as my worst case of flu in 15 years continues to control my body. Nearly 3 weeks in, $100's of "stuff" down my throat, hours of bed rest [sweating profusely - good for the weight!] and still I am feeling like Sh$t!

Good points of being a unwell sports fan:

1. missed the Eagles losing the last 2 weeks
2. missed the Dockers losing last 2 weeks
3. missed seeing Sam Stozur not win the French Open
4. missed Australian getting thumped 4 zip by Germany
5. missed Mark Weber lose twice and lose lead in F1 GP Drivers

and NOT CARING!! because I was asleep!

Robert F Kennedy

Each time a man stands up for an ideal,
or acts to improve the lot of others,
or strikes out against injustice,
he send forth a tiny ripple of hope ...
those ripples build a current that
can sweep down the mightiest walls
of oppression and resistance.

Martin Luther King Jr

My personal trials have also taught me
the value of unmertited suffering.
As my sufferings mounted I soon realised
that there were two ways
that I could respond to my situation:
either to react with bitterness
or to transform the suffering
into a creative force.

Churchill On Persistence...

Never Give in

Never give in!

Never,never,never,never -

in nothing great or small

large or petty - never give in

except to convictions of

honour and good sense.

Open 24 Hours - not Macca's Maylands!!

On Wednesday I decided to take a different route to the office and it was just 5am... so I went along Guildford Road and saw that the MacDonald's in Maylands was open... and quite busy.

So I stopped in and ordered a flat white and a yogurt and cereal [healthy food - what's the world coming to??]

Now the coffee was OK but the experience was pleasant and the wifi free so I decided to try them again this morning.

So, Macca's was a blase of light... I gathered my writing stuff - journal, diary, netbook and books to read... but when I got to the front door there was a sign - Restaurant closed use drive through... no explanation just "piss off it is inconvenient to be open this morning...

Not sure I will try then again.

Big companies are like that, aren't they... but a few million $$$'s of ads will be spent to get me back when I was there in the first place.

Make your plan and work it

Look at your life as a beautiful fabric woven from wonderful rich colours and fine cloth.

Make a plan, one that is full of obtainable goals for a happy life.

Read through the plan daily so that it becomes a permanent part of your thought process.
